Some 2 years ago myself and Marie commissioned works to widen the footpaths over the Turf Lane bridge to make it safe for pedestrians and wide enough for prams, wheelchairs and mobility scooters to cross with out having to put themselves in danger by having to go into the road.
The secondary purpose was to create a pinch point that would slow down vehicles using this stretch of road. It has been successful on both counts but from messages we have been getting, and from speaking to people, there is still a problem with speeding traffic.

We have written to all residents on Turf Lane asking for their views on what we could do to tackle the problem, maybe we look at implementing a 20mph speed limit on Turf Lane; but this is just one idea to open the discussion. From the feedback we have had so far and from the people we have personally spoken to on the doorsteps today, some interesting ideas have already come forward which could help without having to reduce the speed limit.

I’m looking forward to getting more feedback from Turf Lane residents and listening to their ideas, so between us we can formulate a workable and sustainable means of controlling vehicle speed along this busy road. Speeding is a UK wide problem which can be difficult to deal with, but as with the anti-social parking problems on Broadway, Marie and I are working with council officers and residents to find effective local solutions.
